Breakfast Highlights Dr. Jim Taylor, Honors Barbara Glynn, and Hears Testimonial

On Thursday, April 28, more than 250 attendees gathered for the 2nd Annual Circle of Support Breakfast . Held at the Menlo Circus Club, the Breakfast was a benefit for Family & Children Services intended to raise both money and visibility in the community. Additionally, an inspiring keynote speaker educated the audience on family dynamics and parenting, offering the public a glimpse into the issues addressed every day by F&CS.

This year's presenter was Dr. Jim Taylor, prominent author, parenting expert and sports psychologist. Dr. Taylor addressed his concept of Positive Pushing for healthy emotional development in children. Describing parental predicaments, Dr. Taylor acknowledged that, “If children are pushed too hard, they may rebel and achieve neither success nor happiness. If parents don't push enough, their children may be self-satisfied and unmotivated.”

Dr. Taylor introduced his “Three Pillars of Successful Achievers”—self-esteem, ownership, and emotional mastery. The Three Pillars provide parents with the rationale, understanding, and tools to raise their children to be confident, motivated, emotionally mature, and joyful.

The Circle of Support Breakfast audience praised the speaker's frankness and insight. For more information on Dr. Jim Taylor, his books, or speaking appearances, go to www.drjimtaylor.com.

Special thanks are extended to the Circle of Support Breakfast Committee, chaired by Stephanie Agnew, for organizing and hosting such an outstanding event. Breakfast Honors Barbara Glynn and Hears Praise from FAST Program Participant

With the Circle of Support Breakfast an overwhelming success, the Breakfast Committee honored the woman behind the original vision for the event. A special tribute was made to Barbara Glynn for her assistance, dedication, and foresight in creating an event to educate the community and address topics related to emotional wellness.

Barbara received the appreciation and praise of the committee and event attendees, as well as special Proclamations from the San Mateo County and Santa Clara County Boards of Supervisors. Santa Clara County Supervisor, Liz Kniss presented Barbara with a Proclamation and thanked her for her years of service to the Silicon Valley philanthropy community. Barbara's work with Family & Children Services, the Elizabeth Gamble Garden , the Tech Museum of San Jose and others has been a tremendous contribution to the community.

In addition to Barbara Glynn's tribute, guests enjoyed a testimonial from Family & Children Services client Cecilia Lopez . Cecilia and her family are participants in the Agency's Families and Schools Together (FAST) Program, a unique and proven approach to improving self-esteem and school performance in at-risk elementary and middle school children. Cecilia praised the program and staff who helped her family bond, build communication, and enjoy togetherness.

While Dr. Jim Taylor instructed the audience that, as parents, they need to be an active and positively presence in their children's lives, Cecilia exemplified his ideas. The Lopez family is now working together as a loving unit thanks to the FAST Program.

The Agency extends warm thanks to Barbara Glynn and Cecilia Lopez for their dedication and courage as members of the Family & Children Services community.
