On Thursday, May 6th, guests were treated to a talk by award-winning author Mark Salzman, who spoke of his experience as a volunteer writing teacher with youth at a juvenile detention center. This experience is chronicled movingly in his book True Notebooks: A Writer's Year at Juvenile Hall.

Guests also came to celebrate the contributions of Eastside College Preparatory School, a private high school in East Palo Alto that is "committed to opening new doors for students historically underrepresented in higher education."

These services include one-to-one counseling services, Independent Living Program services for youth emerging from the foster care system, and on-campus counseling services.
