Circle of Support Committee Reaches Out with Valentines
- Volunteers Share Valentines with AIDS/HIV+ Clients Served by Family & Children Services -

Release Date: February 14, 2007

[Palo Alto] Today the Circle of Support Breakfast committee demonstrated its support of clients of Family & Children Services this Valentine’s Day by preparing twenty-four special valentine gift bags for men and women the agency serves at the Willow Clinic in Menlo Park. The clients, who are living with HIV and AIDS, receive mental health services from Family & Children Services.

The Circle of Support Committee is hard at work planning its fourth annual breakfast, to be held on May 10, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza Cabaña Hotel in Palo Alto featuring Dr. Mike Riera as keynote speaker. The breakfast benefits Family & Children Services. The committee members spent part of their monthly planning meeting assembling the valentines, which included socks, lotion, health bars, chocolate, and other toiletries.

“The Circle of Support Breakfast raises funds to support the mission of Family & Children Services. Assembling these valentines for clients in our community is one way of showing them that we care and we wish them joy,” said Carrie Drake, chair of the 2007 Circle of Support Breakfast Committee. “We encourage the community’s support of Family & Children Services’ important work by attending the breakfast on May 10th.”

“The clients I and other Family & Children Services’ therapists work with at the Willow Clinic are very low-income. These gifts will mean a great deal to them, especially on Valentine’s Day, when it is easy to feel alone,” said Kate Parkinson, a therapist with Family & Children Services who provides one-to-one and group counseling for clients in the San Mateo County AIDS Program served at the San Mateo County Health Department’s Willow Clinic.

In addition to serving the clients at the Willow Clinic, Family & Children Services provides health and human services to approximately 8,000 children, teens, and adults in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. The agency provides mental health services for all ages on a sliding fee scale, family violence prevention, intervention, and treatment, family support services, and substance abuse treatment, among a range of services. The agency works to build strong, safe, and self-sufficient individuals, families, and communities.
