Family & Children Services Honors Community Leaders
San Jose , CA —Family & Children Services (F&CS) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2005 Awards for Exceptional Service. This year, the agency honors Mr. Greg Gallo in the category for Recognition of an Individual, and Valle Monte League and The Peninsula Ball Committee in the category for Recognition of an Organization, Corporation, or Foundation. These local leaders have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to F&CS, as well as to improving the welfare of children and families in the broader community. Family & Children Services presented the awards on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at a Leadership Recognition Reception, held at the Los Altos Golf and Country Club.
According to Jeanne Labozetta, President and CEO of F&CS, “Greg Gallo, Valle Monte League, and The Peninsula Ball Committee have each offered unwavering support to our agency and our community. Through generous contributions of resources and passion, each has ensured Family & Children Services ability to provide the highest quality of care to those in need in our neighborhoods.”
The Exceptional Service Awards are based on criteria including the demonstration of a multi-year commitment of resources, time, work, ideas, and energy; measurable results in terms of funds raised, programs launched, or new relationships created; and acting as an advocate for Family & Children Services in the larger Silicon Valley community.
Individual honoree, Greg Gallo, served on the Board of Directors of Family & Children Services from 1995-2001, and currently sits on the Advisory Board. In addition to innumerable personal contributions, Mr. Gallo, an attorney for DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, inspired his firm to provide legal resources to F&CS pro bono. The firm's perseverance and commitment has helped F&CS regulate compliance and institute best practices in human resources, contracts and reimbursement procedures, and liability insurance. Among other community activities, Mr. Gallo is a fellow of the American Leadership Forum and is a member of their Board of Directors.
Valle Monte League and The Peninsula Ball Committee garnered the awards for Exceptional Service by an organization. Family & Children Services celebrated its 50 year partnership with Valle Monte League in 2004, marking five decades of collaboration to address mental health issues in the South Bay . Valle Monte League is an all-volunteer organization comprised of 150 women and they have donated more than $6.5M to local mental health agencies since their inception. Through the generous donations by Valle Monte League, Family & Children Services has delivered high-quality mental health services, purchased property, completed facilities expansions, and installed a playground at the San Jose office.
The Peninsula Ball Committee has graciously donated more than $3M to Family & Children Services over the course of a 45 year partnership. The Ball, rich in history and family tradition, serves as a benefit for the agency, raising money for F&CS programs in counseling and domestic violence prevention. Additionally, the Ball offers young women in the Bay Area an opportunity for social engagement and philanthropy. As a philanthropic project, each year the debutantes assemble and wrap Easter baskets for children, single mothers, and families in need. The Peninsula Ball Committee organizes and orchestrates the Ball on an annual basis, providing F&CS with key financial support in efforts to improve the emotional health and well being of the community.
Family & Children Services helps build safe, strong, and loving families in our communities. The 2005 recipients of the Exceptional Service Awards consistently demonstrate unparalleled contributions of time, energy, and resources—enabling F&CS to continue its vital work.
