4th Annual Circle of Support Benefit Breakfast
Palo Alto, CA -- “The Hidden Logic of Children and Teenagers” is the keynote topic of the fourth annual Circle of Support Breakfast, a benefit for Family & Children Services. The breakfast takes place Wednesday, May 10, from 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Cabaña Hotel in Palo Alto. It will feature Dr. Mike Riera as keynote speaker and Lawrence M. Schwab as honoree. Tickets are $70 each.
Dr. Mike Riera, bestselling author and leading authority on communicating with and understanding kids and teens, will present the keynote talk. Riera’s Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers, first published in 1995 and re-released with new chapters in 2004, established his reputation for offering no-nonsense, practical advice to parents in understanding their teens. Riera’s other titles include Field Guide to the American Teenager and Staying Connected to Your Teenager, which was launched with two appearances on the Oprah show. He was the parenting correspondent for CBS-TV’s Saturday Early Show for eight years and has hosted radio and television shows for teenagers. Dr. Riera is Head of School at Redwood Day School in Oakland.
Also at the breakfast, community leader Lawrence M. (Larry) Schwab will be honored for his 20-plus years of volunteer service to families and children on the mid-Peninsula. Mr. Schwab, an attorney in Palo Alto, currently serves on the Advisory Board of Family & Children Services and the Board of Directors of six local nonprofit organizations, and provides pro bono services to many other organizations. He is a longtime resident of Portola Valley.
Kepler’s Books will provide Dr. Riera’s books for purchase, donating 10 percent of the proceeds to Family & Children Services. Major underwriting support is provided by JP Morgan Private Bank, Lehman Brothers, the Ronald Conway Family, Coldwell Banker–Northern California, and Rabbit Office Automation.
