Victor G. Carrion to be Honored at 8th Annual Circle of Support Breakfast
~ May 5 event will honor Dr. Carrion for his outstanding work in psychiatry
Palo Alto, CA – April 12, 2011 - On May 5, Victor G. Carrion, M.D., associate professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine and director of the Stanford Early Life Stress Research Program, will be honored for his work in psychiatry at the 8th annual Circle of Support Breakfast benefiting Family & Children Services. The event will feature bestselling author Ayelet Waldman as keynote speaker. Ms. Waldman will speak about her experience as a mother with bipolar disorder. The Circle of Support Breakfast will be held from 8am-10:30am at the Crowne Plaza Cabaña Hotel, 4290 El Camino Real in Palo Alto. Tickets are available for purchase.
Dr. Victor G. Carrion’s research at Stanford University has concentrated on understanding how early life stress, such as traumatic experiences, alter behavior and emotion and the role of brain structure and function in these findings. He is also interested in the development of new treatment modalities that are focused and targeted. Dr. Carrion previously has been awarded Young Investigator Awards by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the National Association for Research in Schizophrenia and Affective Disorders, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the National Institute of Mental Health.
In addition to his teaching at Stanford University School of Medicine and leadership of the Stanford Early Life Stress Research Program, Dr. Carrion is on the faculty at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford and Associate Editor for the Journal of Traumatic Stress.
The Circle of Support Breakfast will feature Ayelet Waldman, author of the memoir ‘Bad Mother: A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes, Minor Calamities, and Occasional Moments of Grace’ and works of fiction, as keynote speaker. Ms. Waldman’s talk is entitled “Monkey Bars and Mood Swings: The Journey of a Bipolar Mother.”
The 2011 Circle of Support Breakfast is co-chaired by Barbara E. Jones and Adrienne Ortega. John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn are the event’s lead underwriters. Additional sponsors include Borel Private Bank & Trust Company, Barbara and John Glynn, Susan and Bill Friedman, Barbara E. Jones, and Tasneem Ismailji and Bala Manian.
Proceeds from the Circle of Support Breakfast will benefit Family & Children Services’ counseling and prevention programs for children, teens, and adults in Silicon Valley. Family & Children Services provides a circle of counseling, caring, and support, particularly for those who might not otherwise be able to afford care.
