Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Families Invited to Sign Up for Free Family Program
Family & Children Services Launches 2nd Year of Deaf Families Program
[San Jose] On August 31st, Family & Children Services’ Deaf Families with Children Program will host a registration night for its fall workshops and activities from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Monte Vista Gardens Senior Center. Santa Clara County families with a parent or elementary school-aged child who is Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing (HOH) are invited to sign up for this free program featuring after-school programming for children, workshops for parents, and family activities.
The Deaf Families with Children Program is entering its second year. The first year ended with two weekend family camping trips in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The nonprofit Family & Children Services has served the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing community in Santa Clara County for more than 20 years. The family program is made possible through the generous support of the City of San Jose’s Healthy Neighborhoods Venture Fund, FIRST 5 Santa Clara County, Valle Monte League, and private donations. Meeting space is donated by ROEM Corporation.
Children in the program meet once a week for arts and crafts, health and fitness, and social skill-building activities. Educational workshops are offered for parents. These workshops address topics of interest to parents of Deaf children, as well as provide the opportunity to build a network of support with other local families. Services are available in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language.
For more information and to sign up, please attend the registration session on August 31st or contact us. Information about this program is available online at www.fcservices.org. Monte Vista Gardens Senior Center is located at 2605 La Hacienda Court, San Jose.
