Children & Youth
Growing up can be difficult. Every child should have the opportunity to
grow up to be a healthy, productive member of society. Today's youth are
faced with many choices and challenges that affect their daily lives as
well as their future.
Counseling services are available for children, teens, and their families to help overcome challenges or hardships that may occur.
SERVICES
Family counseling
Family & Children Services operates a special program for families experiencing divorce,
separation, or remarriage. This program is available at the San Jose and
Palo Alto offices.
DEAF - Dealing Effectively with Abuse in Families
Counseling and
child abuse prevention services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children
and their families.
Independent Living Program (ILP)
The program serves youth who are preparing to exit from foster care, group homes or a relative placement, as well as those who have recently “emancipated” (been legally declared self-sufficient to leave the foster care system and live on their own). Participants learn about vocational training, college and financial aid, jobs and careers, housing, budgeting, health issues, living independently, and leadership skills.
Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Monitoring
Psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring services are available
for children, teens and adults, individuals with HIV/AIDS, those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and people with
serious mental illness.
Early Childhood Services
Early
detection and intervention for children and their families can help prevent
long-term and lasting problems. Childcare staff may need help on identifying
problems, establishing appropriate responses to difficulties, and communicating
with parents about problems and solutions. Mental health, violence prevention
and family support services, and training for children, families, and staff
are available at childcare facilities.
Services to People with Serious Mental Illness
Mental health counseling is available for individuals, children, teens, and adults.

Who is Eligible?
Services are available to all qualified applicants.

Family counseling: Fees are based on a sliding scale.
DEAF - Dealing Effectively with Abuse in Families: No.
Independent Living Program: No.
Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Monitoring: Fees are based on a sliding scale.
Early Childhood Education: Fees are determined by the contract established by the
childcare site.
Services to People with Serious Mental Illness: There are no fees for MediCal clients.
