Parenting
Being a parent can be challenging and often people dont know where
to turn. Services are available to help deal with issues such as separation,
divorce or remarriage, stress and anxiety, disabilities, and social and
behavior problems.
SERVICES
Counseling
Individual and group counseling services
are available for adults, couples, families, teens and children.
DEAF - Dealing Effectively with Abuse in Families
Counseling and child abuse prevention services for children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and their families.
Early Childhood Services
Early detection and intervention for children and their families can help prevent long-term and lasting problems. Childcare staff may need help on identifying problems, establishing appropriate responses to difficulties, and communicating with parents about problems and solutions. Mental health, violence prevention and family support services, and training for children, families and staff are available at childcare facilities.
Families and Schools Together (FAST)
FAST is a school-based, family-focused program designed to increase self-esteem and improve the school performance of at-risk elementary and middle school children by supporting the natural strength of the family unit. Specific goals include preventing school failure, enhancing family bonding and functioning, preventing substance abuse by the child and family, and reducing the stress that parents and children experience in their daily lives.
Positive Solutions
Services are for children and for adults. Participants learn ways to express anger in appropriate ways and to interact with others in acceptable and positive ways. Court-mandated parenting classes (Parenting Without Violence) and domestic violence offender groups for men and for women teach positive discipline, stress management, communication skills, and effective ways to work to stop the circle of violence. Anger Management and Accountability Groups support adults in taking responsibility for their actions and learning to have positive relationships. These services are available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and American Sign Language.
Support and counseling for divorce, separation, and remarriage
For families experiencing divorce,
separation, or remarriage. This program is available at the San Jose and
Palo Alto offices.
