Workplace services and employee Assistance Program
Family & Children Services brings its expertise in mental health, crisis counseling, and mediation services to area businesses and corporations through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Our EAP offers a mental health counseling benefit for employees, and a host of services to assist employees and employers.
Why are EAPs needed? Problems often occur inside and outside the workplace. Professional counseling is available to help employees work through issues and remain productive at work.
Services:
• |
Counseling Services for Employees
The EAP benefit provides assessment and referral counseling sessions to employees at no cost to them. A licensed professional can help them to work through issues such as depression, relationship difficulties, parenting struggles, family loss, addictions, and major illnesses. Affordable services are available to companies with fewer than 200 employees through the small business consortium. All services are confidential for employees. |
• |
Emergency Services
If an employee is currently working with one of our clinicians and experiences an emergency that cannot wait until the next scheduled appointment, he or she may call and speak with the clinician on call. Even when the agency is closed, phone access is available and the employee will be able to speak with a clinician by phone. |
• |
Management Consultation
Managers sometimes need help working through difficult employee performance problems. The EAP benefit makes support available to managers and to HR personnel as they plan solutions to these problems. It also makes available a professional third party to help employees with whatever personal issues may contribute to these problems, permitting managers to focus on the job-specific performance issues. |
• |
Mediation
Sometimes conflicts between employees can disrupt the workplace and reduce department productivity. Professionals trained in communication and conflict resolution are available to serve as a neutral, third party to assist the employees in resolving the problems. |
• |
Small Business Consortium
Companies with fewer than 200 employees may join a consortium of small companies and access the EAP benefits even more affordably. |
• |
Trauma Response
Tragic and intensely disturbing events happen in the workplace from time to time. Unexpected and sudden deaths, threats of violence, and serious accidents are a few of the scenarios that can shock employees and affect their work. The EAP benefit provides on-site group debriefing led by professionals specially trained in trauma. This helps employees cope better with the trauma, and includes assessment of which employees may need further help through the individual counseling benefit. |
• |
Training
Employers participating in EAP may have 1-2 hour workshops on-site for employees. Topics available include stress management, violence prevention, sexual harrassment, and communication skills. |
Fees:
Employers contract with Family & Children Services to provide the EAP benefit. We offer affordable rates, based on the number of employees. The Small Business Consortium increases access for to the EAP for smaller employers.
Employees of these companies receive counseling at no cost. The number of free sessions depends on the EAP contract. All services are fully confidential.
Locations:
Counseling sessions are held at our San Jose and Palo Alto offices. Presentations, mediation sessions, and crisis counseling are available on-site for Silicon Valley businesses. Through our membership in a national network, we can also arrange quality care and services for employees in other locations and accept referrals.
