Mental health counseling, information and referrals, and family support services

For more than 20 years, Family & Children Services has specialized in serving the mental health needs of children and adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (HOH) in Santa Clara County.

News

Cochlear Implant Family Support Group forming. Join us on the 4th Saturday of each month from 10am to noon at Family & Children Services Julian Street Office.  ASL interpreters will be provided and Spanish by request. To participate in this free group, the family must reside in Santa Clara County and have a child under the age of 6 who has a Cochlear Implant and/or CODA. Internships: Beginning in January 2010, resumes will be accepted for 2010 Fall BSW (bachelor of social work) internship placements. Applicants must be fluent in ASL. Please send resumes to eybarra@fcservices.org

Services

Services for Families with Young Children (5 and under)
Funded by FIRST 5 Santa Clara County, families of children five and under who are Deaf or HOH may access free information and support services. Contact us for referrals, guidance on strategies to raise a healthy child and to build communication, and answers to parenting questions. Home visits and counseling are also available.
Mental Health Counseling
Counseling is available for children, youth, and adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and for their family members. Through individual, couples, family, and group counseling, clients address such issues as self-esteem, communication, social skills, parenting, relationships, and depression. Services are available in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL).
Family Program: Parent Workshops and Weekly After-School Program
Made possible through the funding support of the City of San Jose's Healthy Neighborhoods Venture Fund, families living in San Jose with a child who is Deaf/HOH are invited to join a fun and educational family program. The program features workshops for parents and families, weekly after-school activities for children, and outings. view flyer
Information and Referral Services
F&CS is also here to help with referrals to local resources that assist children and adults who are Deaf or HOH.

Parent Education
Support groups, one-to-one consultations, and education for parents with a child who is Deaf or HOH and for parents who are Deaf or HOH.

Communication modes:
American Sign Language, English, and Spanish

Locations and Fees:
Services are available to residents of Santa Clara County. Clients are served in our San Jose office, through home visits, and at community-based locations, depending on the program.

Medi-Cal is accepted for counseling and mental health services. We also offer fees on a sliding scale for individuals without insurance who are not Medi-Cal-eligible.

No fees are charged for information and referral; FIRST 5 Santa Clara-funded family support services (must be residents of Santa Clara County with a child under age 5); or the parent workshops/children's after-school program (must be residents of San Jose).
