Clinical Research

As part of Family & Children Services' 2007-2008 strategic planning process, our Board of Directors and staff identified clinical research as a strategic initiative.

In order to contribute to the field of knowledge, our staff members are applying their expertise to programmatic innovation. Our goal is to develop effective and innovative services that improve the strength, safety, and self-sufficiency of individuals and families.

Our first initiative is the development of a new model of family violence and abuse prevention that promotes resiliency and family strength while also teaching essential skills for life-long wellness. Clinical Director David Sitzer, Ph.D., in collaboration with members of our staff and Program Committee of the Board of Directors, developed the model and curriculum in the spring of 2008.

We are delighted to be collaborating with East Palo Alto Charter School during the 2008-2009 school year to pilot the project. Participating students are learning skills to manage stress and life transitions, understand their emotions and how to choose their reactions, develop empathy, and build healthy relationships. We look forward to expanding the project and bringing these critical life skills to more students and parents.

For more information about this project, please contact David Sitzer, Ph.D., at 650-326-6576 or through the Contact Us form.
