Family & Children Services believes in providing culturally-appropriate care. We want all of our clients to feel comfortable, understood, and accepted. In response to community needs, we also have developed specialized services for underserved groups.

The South East Asian Program
The staff of the South East Asian population works in partnership with the County of Santa Clara to provide mental health and case management services for monolingual individuals from South East Asia. Services are provided in Vietnam and Cambodian. This program operates out of our San Jose office.

Services for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Questioning Community
Individuals working through sexual orientation issues often experience feelings of separation, isolation, and fear. Talking about these feelings in a supportive, culturally sensitive environment helps develop positive self-esteem and a strong identity. Professional counseling can also ease the difficulties of the coming out process.
We offer both individual and group counseling.
Counseling helps members identify and manage such issues as: “coming out,” children and adults living with HIV/AIDS, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationships, medication management and side effects, workplace issues, communication, living with HIV/AIDS, and grief and loss. Psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring is available.
These services are available in English, American Sign Language, and Spanish.

Appointments are available in our San Jose and Palo Alto offices.
Fees are set on a sliding fee scale; insurance is accepted. Students may be eligible for a number of free counseling based on their school district. Please call for information.

Counseling for Individuals Living with HIV or AIDS
Coping with an HIV/AIDS diagnosis can be difficult for those infected by and affected by the disease. Comprehensive mental health services are available to help face these challenges.
We offer individual and group counseling.
One-on-one and group counseling helps members identify manage how living with HIV/AIDS affects issues such as: depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationships, medication management and side effects, workplace issues, communication and grief and loss. Psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring is available.
These services are available to individuals living with with HIV or AIDS, as well as family members, caregivers, and significant others.
Services are available in English, American Sign Language, Spanish, Cambodian, and Vietnamese.
Locations & Fees
Clients pay no fees if they meet qualifications set by San Mateo County. We also accept insurance and set fees on a sliding scale. A scholarship fund is available to help with fees, as well.
