Family Loans & Financial Literacy Education
Managing the family’s finances is a key element of achieving self-sufficiency. The Ways to Work Family Loan Program supports family in successfully managing their household finances, building strong credit, and following a budget and a savings plan. Family & Children Services operates the Santa Clara County office of Ways to Work, a national program.

Family Loans
Qualifying families are eligible to receive low-interest loans to use for vehicle purchases or repairs. The maximum loan amounts are $4,000 for purchases and $750 for repairs. Loans must be repaid within two years. |

Financial Literacy Education
Participants in the loan program receive financial education, including education in understanding their credit report, working with banks, and setting up budgets. Staff members serve as an information resource for the family throughout the loan period. |
Eligibility:
Families who meet all of the following requirements are encouraged to call for more information:
- Residents of Santa Clara County.
- At least one child under the age of 18 is in legal and physical custody.
- Employed by the same employer for more than 6 months, working more than 25 hours per week.
- No bankruptcies.
- Meet income guidelines.
Families who receive loans are required to repay the loan.
