Warning Signs
While no formula exists to identify someone who is planning or considering to take his or her life, a number of common behaviors and actions have been identified.

Talk of suicide. |

Drastic changes in behavior. |

Withdrawal from social activities, friendships, and family members. |

A sense of putting things in order.
Examples: Giving away treasured possessions, arranging for the care of pets, lavish spending. |

Uncharacteristic risk taking. |

Increase in drug or alcohol use. |
• |
A change in personality. |
• |
Severe depression. |
• |
A sudden lifting of depression. (This could indicate that a decision has been made.) |

Expresses a sense of hopelessness. |
